reunion dinner~during New Year's Eve Of the Chinese New Year
the fish is something that must be included!
not only that
people purposely don't finish it so that there are leftover
and th reason for this stems for a pun
as chinese phase 年年有鱼
is homophone with phrase which mean "be blessed every year "and "have profit every year!"

the black hair like algae or more well knowan as fat choy
and this is one of the dishes tat must be served during chinese new year as it sounds like "fat choy" means prosperity
whee~!
